During an intense and dangerous three week tour of the Afghanistan and Iraq war zones, Tania’s life was changed. Her eyes were opened when she travelled with, and live the life of the military … wearing a bulletproof vest, helmet and protective clothing, and flying on Hercules Air Force planes from base to base while dodging gunfire.

She was amazed by the diversity of duties the Australian Defence Forces performed in areas of conflict, but the part that touched her heart the most was the work done towards improving infrastructure and services for the local people. This includes rebuilding the villages, constructing water tanks and teaching the local young men a trade to help themselves and those around them.
